Potomac Law is pleased to announce that Consulting Counsel Viva Hammer will moderate a panel titled “Global Tax Consensus: Can it Last?” on April 9 and 10.

According to Hammer, it's hard to imagine the nations of the world agreeing to anything, but they have agreed to a single tax system. She says most nations have agreed to enact Pillar 2 of the OECD's tax principles and that their purpose is to make sure multinationals pay their "fair share." The United States, India and China – some of the world's largest economies – have not fully bought into the Pillar 2 principles. But Europe and Japan and others have. How long can this single rule of tax law last?

The three global tax leaders debating the future of tax consensus are:

  • Tom Barthold, US Congress
  • David Bradbury, OECD
  • Michael Plowgian, Office of Tax Policy, US Treasury

Ms. Hammer previously served on the Joint Committee on Taxation at the U.S. Congress and the Office of Tax Policy at the U.S. Treasury Department. She is also at the Crawford School of Public Policy at Australian National University.

In anticipation of participants from around the globe, the presentation's start and end times in two time zones are as follows:

  • Tuesday, April 9, 2024, 7:00 to 8:30 PM (EST)
  • Wednesday, April 10, 2024, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM (AEDT)

Register and learn more about the program and the panelists.

The presentation is hosted by The Tax and Transfer Policy Institute of the Crawford School of Public Policy in Australia.
