Chris Meazell is a Partner who solves complex business problems through advocacy and counseling. Mr. Meazell represents clients in a wide range of matters including contract and content licensing disputes, business torts, cases involving trade secrets and unfair competition, patent, copyright and trademark infringement, as well as bankruptcy litigation and the direction of regulatory and legislative strategy and compliance. He has particular expertise representing media companies of all sizes. Prior to law school, Mr. Meazell was a professional musician with extensive recording and performance experience.
Representative Experience
- Successfully defeated or resolved numerous patent infringement claims through litigation, USPTO proceedings and negotiation. Representative technologies include: livestreaming software, radio broadcast automation, network security database access, and structured news release generation and distribution systems.
- Successfully defended auction house from civil RICO claims relating to titling of sold goods.
- Negotiated multi-party management and royalty sharing agreements among recording artists.
- Resolved long-running dispute over streaming royalties for resurrected vintage television programming.
- Defeated suit seeking TRO and injunctive relief to stop broadcast of top-rated reality television show.
- Resolved cross-border partnership and export dispute involving Canadian Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.
- Successfully served as special communications counsel in various reorganizations and resolved numerous issues for clients faced with bankrupt counter-parties, such as use of cash collateral, 363 sales, stay relief, and various transfer actions.
- Appointed as Special Attorney General for the State of Georgia for purposes of providing prepublication review to the University of Georgia Press.
- Managed team of 30+ attorneys in large-scale natural resources trial on behalf of State of Minnesota Attorney General’s Office.
- Directed various state legislative proposal and amendment campaigns to expand markets for clients’ products.
