We are pleased to announce the launch of Potomac Law’s Appellate & Critical Motions practice group.

Potomac Law is launching the Appellate & Critical Motions practice group that will handle all aspects of appellate litigation before the United States Supreme Court, the federal courts of appeal, and the appellate courts of Maryland, Washington, DC, and other states. The group’s practice will span the breadth of the firm’s substantive expertise, from antitrust, arbitration, bankruptcy, business torts, commercial contracts, First Amendment, and financial products to intellectual property, insurance, media, products liability, securities, and white-collar criminal defense.

In addition to serving as primary counsel in appellate matters, the Appellate group will prepare amicus curiae briefs in appeals raising issues that substantially affect clients’ interests. Our appellate attorneys will also work with trial counsel from other firms to prepare dispositive motions and other critical filings and to ensure that issues are preserved for appeal.

The launch of the Appellate practice group is being spearheaded by new PLG Partner Ayesha N. Khan, who has more than two decades of experience litigating high-stakes appeals in state and federal courts nationwide. Prior to joining PLG, Ms. Khan was a Deputy Chief in the Appellate Section of the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. Before that, she was a trial and appellate litigator for two Washington, DC-based nonprofit organizations and for Covington & Burling LLP. She has represented clients (and is admitted to practice) before the U.S. Supreme Court and every federal circuit, and she is barred in Washington, DC, Maryland, and California.

Practice members will also include Neil H. Koslowe, who has authored dozens of appellate briefs for the U.S. Supreme Court and lower appellate courts, has presented oral argument before every federal circuit, and previously served as an appellate attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice; Galia Messika, who gained broad appellate experience as a partner in a prominent national law firm, where she litigated complex commercial disputes involving securities, fraud, breach of contract, contested restructuring, trade secrets, and intellectual property; and Harry R. Silverwho has briefed and argued appeals in ten of the twelve federal circuits and many state appellate courts, written briefs for the U.S. Supreme Court, and previously worked in the Appellate Section of the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. The Appellate practice group will also leverage the broad range of substantive and procedural expertise offered by Potomac Law’s other attorneys, further enhancing clients’ odds of success on appeal.
