Potomac Law Group is pleased to announce that it has again been recognized as a leading trademark firm in 2024 WTR 1000 – The World’s Leading Trademark Professionals, the industry’s definitive publication that identifies the top trademark professionals in key jurisdictions around the globe. The firm and individual partners maintained the strong rankings achieved in 2023.

WTR undertakes exhaustive qualitative research, identifying top firms and individuals based on their depth of expertise, market presence and sophistication of work.

“Home to a team of highly experienced and highly specialised lawyers, Potomac Law Group delivers a stellar trademark service that covers all the bases for its patrons,” WTR notes. “Dedicated to cost efficiency, collaboration and partner attention, the team work together seamlessly to devise long-lasting solutions to complex IP problems, earning warm plaudits in the process,” the WTR note continued. The firm was ranked Silver for both prosecution and strategy and enforcement and litigation.

Four Potomac Law partners have also been recognized again this year in the individual rankings as leaders in their field, garnering an impressive three Gold rankings. With two partners ranked at the national level, Potomac Law is one of a very select few firms in the country to have more than one person achieve this level of recognition.

Julia Matheson is "a well-known practitioner who is always impressive in her advocacy, professionalism, deep substantive knowledge of trademark law and ability to think creatively to resolve disputes,” WTR notes. “She also has extensive experience managing international portfolios and brings a unique insight into how to structure a large portfolio to maximise protection while managing costs. Julia is incredibly savvy, methodical, efficient and responsive,” according to the WTR. She is once again one of only eleven practitioners ranked nationally at the Gold level for Prosecution and Strategy. She is also ranked Gold in the competitive DC Metro area for both Prosecution/Strategy and Enforcement/Litigation, one of only two women to achieve Gold in both.

Janet Satterthwaite is “a mastermind at trademark law," and "is highly experienced and brings multi-dimensional insights to issues," WTR notes. “She also puts in polished performances at district and appellate courts to bring in victories for her illustrious client base.” She is recognized for the 13th consecutive year, again ranking in the Gold band in the DC metro area for Prosecution/Strategy, and Silver band for Enforcement/Litigation, and is also ranked Silver at the prestigious National level. Ms. Satterthwaite, along with Ms. Matheson, is one of only a handful of women to be highly ranked for both enforcement and prosecution in the DC Metro Area, a testament to their versatility as a one-stop resource for all global branding needs.

Todd Bontemps, a Silicon Valley IP veteran, is recognized in the Bronze category. He “leverages his in-house experience to proactively meet the needs of his patrons. He is appreciated for his sage, clear-cut and transparent advice,” according to WTR. Todd has specialized in trademarks and global strategic branding matters for 30 years.

“Bringing further litigation firepower, Elissa Brockbank Reese is a thoughtful and precise lawyer who has a knack for zeroing in on what is most important in a case. She is quick to devise strong arguments that will resonate with a judge and jury,” according to WTR. This is Reese’s second consecutive ranking from WTR.

The WTR 1000 focuses exclusively on trademark practice and has firmly established itself as the definitive ‘go-to’ resource for those seeking world-class legal trademark expertise.
