This December 2, 2020, webinar is part of a Catholic University Law School sponsored Speaker Series examining “Contemporary Challenges in American and Global Law.” The webinar topic, “Data Privacy in the US: Where We Stand Today and Predictions for the Future,” discusses the recent evolution of privacy law from traditional sectoral regulation under federal law to state laws (such as in California) adopting a more European model of broad privacy rights that can be asserted by the individual from businesses collecting and using personal information. The webinar also considers the prospects for a US federal data privacy law that would preempt state law and provide a single regulatory scheme.
