Potomac Law is pleased to announce that the firm has achieved Mansfield 5.0 Certification Plus for 2021-2022.

Mansfield aims to increase and sustain diversity in leadership within law firms by broadening the pool of women lawyers, LGBTQ+ lawyers, lawyers with disabilities, and underrepresented racial and/or ethnic lawyers who are considered for senior lateral attorney job openings, firm governance opportunities, equity partner promotions, and firm leadership positions.

“We are honored to join the list of law firms that have achieved the Mansfield 5.0 certification,” said Managing Partner Benjamin Lieber. “We are delighted to receive this distinguished industry award that recognizes the measurable actions we have taken to further advance Potomac Law’s longstanding diversity and inclusion efforts.”

Firms participating in Mansfield 5.0 were also asked to consider at least 30% underrepresented lawyers when hiring and promoting to C-level or other senior-level professional staff roles and for nominations to Chambers USA.

“In Potomac Law’s management ranks alone, 80 percent are women and 60 percent are minorities,” Lieber added. “In addition, 83 percent of practice leadership positions are held by women.”

“It takes a lot of work for firms to make even incremental changes to longstanding systems, and it is an absolute honor for the Diversity Lab team to see what these firms have achieved over the course of the year-long certification cycle,” said Kavita Ramakrishnan, Diversity Lab’s Mansfield Rule and Knowledge Sharing Senior Director. “The firms enthusiastically engaged with Mansfield’s rigorous challenges while sharing learnings with each other to ensure a collective “win.”

The Mansfield Rule is named after Arabella Mansfield, the first woman admitted to the practice of law in the United States. Learn more about Mansfield and the Open Letter.
